Programme details
The John S. Knight Journalism Fellowships at Stanford University give experienced journalism professionals nine months to investigate the problems they believe the industry needs to solve. Instead of arriving with a finished proposal, fellows bring a question, explore it alongside journalists from different backgrounds and develop new approaches through discussions, coaching, workshops and access to Stanford’s academic environment.
The programme runs from September 2027 through May 2028 and requires full-time residence at Stanford. Fellows participate in weekly cohort meetings, biweekly coaching sessions and occasional university events. They also share reflections publicly during the fellowship. The experience is designed around professional growth, experimentation and stronger journalism leadership. It does not award a degree or support individual reporting projects.
