Strengthening Capacity in Global Health Diplomacy

Programme details

Strengthening Capacity in Global Health Diplomacy 2027 is an in-person professional training programme in Geneva, Switzerland, designed for global health diplomats, practitioners and professionals interested in international health policy and diplomacy. Organised by the International Geneva Global Health Platform, the programme helps participants develop the knowledge and practical skills needed to navigate the changing landscape of global health governance.

Delivered with support from the Institute of Philanthropy, the programme brings together faculty from the Geneva Graduate Institute and other leading subject matter experts. It addresses the growing importance of diplomacy amid geopolitical tensions, challenges to multilateral cooperation, technological developments, changing funding arrangements and debates about equity and decolonisation in global health.

Participants learn through a combination of a foundational course, short courses and master classes. The curriculum explores global health law, geopolitics, negotiation, climate change and health diplomacy, and access to medicines. Learning activities strengthen competencies in political analysis, strategic decision-making, leadership, cross-cultural communication, coalition-building and advocacy.

The programme welcomes professionals who are new to International Geneva’s global health ecosystem as well as experienced practitioners seeking to update their knowledge and refine their diplomatic skills. Participants engage in class discussions, complete assigned readings and connect with others working across the global health community.

To receive a Certificate of Programme Completion, participants must attend the foundational course, at least two short courses and at least one master class.
